From country to Celtic, songs for the season

From country music to Celtic, from jazz and gospel to pop, rock, and rhythm and blues, KNOM’s airwaves are filled with Christmas music of all different sorts this holiday season.

Here are some highlights of our specialty music programming leading up to Christmas. In addition to these shows, you’ll hear Christmas music, of course, throughout our regular, deejayed shows throughout the week and weekend.


Country Oldies Christmas Special

Saturday, Dec. 21:
8am – 12noon

Steve Warren hosts 4 big hours of classic country Christmas songs on this extended edition of Country Oldies.

A Christmas Gift For You

Saturday, Dec. 21: 1pm;
Christmas Day: 7pm

A special Christmas program that explores the inside story behind the 1963 album A Christmas Gift for You – featuring performances by The Ronettes, The Crystals, Darlene Love, and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans – that raised the bar for pop/rock arrangements of classic holiday songs. Includes interviews with singers Darlene Love and LaLa Brooks and musicians Nino Tempo, Don Randi, and Hal Blaine. Hosted by Anthony DeCurtis and produced by Joyride Media.

Kelly Clarkson’s Wrapped In Red Christmas Special

Saturday, Dec. 21: 2pm;
Christmas Day: 2pm

The one-hour special features Kelly Clarkson’s holiday memories and stories about the songs on her new holiday music album, Wrapped in Red.

Jazz Gospel Holiday

Sunday, Dec. 22: 2pm

An hour-long program recorded live in 2011 at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City featuring a variety of gospel musicians and singers. Hosted by Kurt Burrell.

Red, White and Air Force Blue Christmas with Blake Shelton

Monday, Dec. 23: 7pm;
Christmas Day: 8pm

In this one-hour radio special produced by the Air Force Recruiting Service, Blake Shelton will share his experiences growing up in Oklahoma, his last Christmas Eve spent with his father before he passed away, his favorite holiday memories, and much more. Select songs from Blake’s 2012 album Cheers, It’s Christmas will also be featured.

Putumayo World Music Hour: Celtic Christmas

Tuesday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve): 10pm

A special Christmas program highlighting carols old and new in the Celtic tradition.
