If you would like to help families of Stebbins / Kotlik affected by flooding or families in Gambell / Savoonga in need of food, here’s how to pitch in and help out:
Kotlik: KNOM is accepting donations of clean blankets/bedding and winter boots. Bring your donations by KNOM now through this Friday November 22, (donation deadline extended through next week!) 8am-5pm: 107 West 3rd Avenue. Please bring your items in a box if you can. KNOM is partnering with Ryan Air to send collected goods to Kotlik.
Stebbins: Donate men’s jeans size 34×34, men’s / women’s warm shirts and pants, snowpants and boots for kids ages 5-9, warm socks, and blankets. Send items to Anna Nashoanak @ Stebbins Community Association. Take items to Bering Air, and they’ll ship them free of charge. If you’d like items picked up in Nome, call Faye Buffas: 304-2455.
Gambell & Savoonga: Donate dry, non-perishable foods. Send items to Native Village of Gambell Relief Effort or City of Savoonga Relief Effort, and send via Bering Air, free of charge. Want to send perishables or meat products? Contact Pearl Mikulski at Kawerak 443-4245.
Special thanks to Ryan Air and Bering Air for donating freight shipment.
If you live outside of Nome, and you want to help Stebbins and Kotlik, communities severely flooded by recent winter storms, contact the State of Alaska American Red Cross. This organization is mobilizing efforts to provide the communities supplies they specifically need. They’re gathering needs lists directly and sending for these supplies in order to provide the best help possible. You can find information on how to help through their website.
