Six mushers will compete in the first ever Equinox Sled Dog Race, hosted by the Nome Kennel Club. The teams will be traveling a total of 73 miles over the 3-day race, an event that is modeled after the La Pas World Championships in Manitoba. The race purse is guaranteed at $4500, and prizes will be awarded to daily winners of the race as well as the team with the shortest elapsed time overall.
Nome Kennel Club President, Chrystie Salesky, says that it has been a while since a Kennel Club race has occurred in Nome. Salesky hopes this will renew excitement in local races.
