Profile: Unique Marathon Bird, The Bar-tailed Godwit

The bar-tailed godwit will later migrate from Western Alaska to New Zealand without stopping. It will travel five to seven days straight. While a majority of bar-tailed godwits nest in Asia, some raise their young in Alaska – from Bethel to Barrow. Nome’s resident expert birder Sister Alice Sullivan explains characteristics of the “unique marathon bird” and talks about where to spot them.
