In the premiere episode of Caught Doing Something Good, we hear from Mamie Iyatunguk, a 10th grader from Shishmaref. A born leader in her village, Mamie strives to improve her school and her community by helping out with special events at her school. As a designated youth leader, Mamie endeavors to represent what a good student and a good member of the community looks like.
In this episode, Mamie discusses some of the things she does that make her a standout student; she shares some of her role models and offers some advice for other students in rural Alaskan communities. Mamie hopes in the future she will be able to assist in bringing running water to the community of Shishmaref.
