DeeDee Jonrowe in Unalakleet: “I Love it Here”

As she’s heading towards Unalakleet, DeeDee Jonrowe says she gets “happier and happier.”

The beloved Iditarod veteran has a special connection to Unalakleet (the first checkpoint on the Norton Sound coast), where she caught up with KNOM’s Laureli Kinneen and talked about her “history” in the village. She also noted the exceptionally difficult, mogul-ridden trail from Kaltag and shared her goal for Iditarod 2011: to finish in the top five.

As of 11pm Sunday night, DeeDee Jonrowe is just a few positions shy of her top-5 goal; she’s in 7th position, having left Unalakleet with 10 dogs (down from 11) at 3:55pm.
