In Takotna: Jeff King

Jeff King pulled into the Takotna checkpoint first. He’d like to do the same at the finish line in Nome, but for the time being, he’s taking it “one day at a time” and even “one mile at a time.”

Laureli, our reporter on the trail, caught up with King in Takotna during his 24-hour layover there. The four-time Iditarod champ heaped praise onto the checkpoint, saying, “every spot in Takotna is heaven.” He shared with us a brief history of where Iditarod mushers took their 24-hour layovers in the past, as well as how he spends the day of rest:

Jeff King will be eligible to depart Takotna early Thursday morning.
