2010 marks the 38th running of “The Last Great Race”: The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. It’s a beloved and hallowed Alaskan tradition, taking mushers over 1,000 miles from Anchorage to Nome. KNOM’s station building and headquarters are just blocks from the finish line (the “burled arch”), and we’ve been on the trail to cover the race from the very first Iditarod in 1973.
This year, we’re covering the race in a way we never have before: online.

Check this blog also for web coverage of the Nome-Golovin Snowmachine Race. The race takes snowmachine (or snowmobile) competitors on a fast-paced trail from Nome to the village of Golovin and back: a course of almost 200 miles. The event starts Saturday, March 13th at 12noon (Alaska Standard Time), and we’ll be there to cover it: on-air and online.
