We’re happy to announce that KNOM Radio Mission — in particular, its intrepid volunteers! — took home three awards and shared credit on a fourth at this weekend’s annual gathering of the Alaska Press Club.
The 2017 AK Press Club recognized KNOM’s work in these categories:
- in “Best Blog,” first place for the KNOM Volunteers’ Audio Blog; credit to 2016–2017 volunteers Davis Hovey, Karen Trop, Lauren Frost, and Tyler Stup, and to 2015–2016 volunteers Mitch Borden, Emily Russell, Madison Winchester, and Laura Kraegel
- for “Best Education Reporting,” second place for volunteer reporter Davis Hovey’s story on the Unalakleet Fab Lab
- for “Best Ongoing Public Affairs Program,” second place for Story49, with credits to Madison Winchester and Lauren Frost
- for “Best Breaking News Story,” third place for “Sled dog dead after snowmachiner attacks Iditarod teams,” with credit shared between 2016 KNOM news director Emily Schwing and Alaska Public Media’s Zachariah Hughes, Ben Matheson, and Josh Edge
