On this episode of Dearest Alaska, we are going to the beach! At the end of June, the community of Nome celebrates the Summer Solstice with the Midnight Sun Festival. During this weeklong celebration, the annual Polar Bear Swim is held on Nome’s East Beach.
Hundreds turned out to prove they could survive the cold waters of the Bering Sea. Screams erupted as the first brave souls jumped into the icy waves. Soon after taking a plunge, the majority of this year’s participants huddled around a huge fire. I hope you enjoy this episode that is filled with laughter, waves, and a lot of voices.
