Six candidates have filed their intention to run in the Nome municipal election this October.
On October 7, 2014 voters will select representatives for two Nome school board positions, two city council seats, and two utility board positions. Of the six candidates registered with the city clerk’s office, five will run as incumbents.
Tom Sparks and Louis Green, Sr. seek to hold their current positions on the Nome city council. Fred Moody and Carl Emmons will run for reelection to their seats on the joint utility board, and Jennifer Reader will seek another term on the school board.
The sixth candidate, Brandy Arrington, is running for a school board position currently held by Barb Nichols. All candidates are running unopposed.
Also on the October municipal elections ballot: Proposition 1. If passed, the measure would increase the sales tax on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products in Nome from five to eight percent.
The municipal election will be held at Old St. Joe’s in Nome on October 7, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
