Mary Ryan is an artist and multimedia storyteller.

Motivated by KNOM’s mission, she started as news manager in July of 2021. Currently the communications manager, she writes The Nome Static, manages the website and social media, and plans communications strategies.

Mary calls Anchorage, AK her home. She graduated with a BA in Journalism and Public Communications from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2020. During her undergraduate studies, she worked as the features editor and managing editor of The Northern Light, UAA’s student-run newspaper. Multimedia courses and TNL’s partnership with KRUA, UAA’s student-run radio station, introduced her to broadcast journalism.

After a year of working remotely in Connecticut, Mary graduated with a master’s degree in strategic communications and public relations at Sacred Heart University in August 2022. This degree furthered her goal to draw on her creativity and the power of words to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

During her free time, Mary loves all things arts. She takes every chance she gets to swing dance. She enjoys graphic design, acrylic painting, sketching, and a variety of crafts including making dream catchers and friendship bracelets. She also plays guitar, violin and piano.
