Bering Sea Bar and Grill demolished after fire

The Bering Sea Bar and Grill is gone after a fire started in the building the evening of Sept. 17 while Nome was being buffeted by a powerful fall storm. No deaths were reported and the few who were injured recovered.

Nome trailer burns down, taking one life

A fire engine from the Nome Volunteer Fire Department is parked on the snow-covered Division. Nome volunteer fire responded to a truck fire in the parking lot of Old St. Joe's.

A fire burned down a residence on the Dexter Bypass Road in Nome Tuesday evening. First responders reported finding an unidentified body in the building.

Bering Strait Region mourns first COVID death

The Norton Sound and Bering Strait region is currently experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases. NSHC identified 15 new cases in the region Oct. 13, bringing the total number of active cases in the region to 117.

Missing Nome Siblings Are Located and Found Safe

Two minors in Nome are allegedly missing and the Nome Police Department is asking the public for assistance in locating them. Both 12 year-old John “Iggy” Kokuluk Jr. and 13 year-old Cheryl Kokuluk were allegedly last seen yesterday.

Two Gold Miners Missing After Cape Nome Shipwreck

Two people are still missing after a gold mining dredge capsized near the Cape of Nome last night. One member of the three-person crew made it to shore after the capsize and called for assistance.
